The Kaizer Chiefs coach, Stuart Baxter, said some of his new players might be available in a Soweto Derby.
Kaizer Chiefs will face Orlando Pirates in the Carling Black Label Cup that will kick off on Sunday, 1 August 2021, at the Orlando Stadium. Fans are cautioned not to arrive due to the restriction of the Covid-19 lockdown.
Speaking at the press conference, Stuart Baxter said he does not want to lose this game.
"Sometimes, I may feel like it's too big too soon. Sometimes you have injuries and players that have just signed. But in any condition, this has always been a high-profile game for us. The spirit always makes it a gripping event. No one wants to lose the game."
When it comes to the availability of new players, Stuart Baxter said he's hoping to get a few of them on the field.
"We're monitoring all our players with fitness levels, especially as some may come up from Cosafa, Olympics, or a couple of months in a break. Right now, It's hard to get everybody at the right level. So, we won't take any chances, but we're hopeful that we may get some of the few on the field."
Kaizer Chiefs are willing to close up the gap as they have won the trophy 3-times since it started in 2011. On the other hand, Orlando Pirates have won it 5-times. In 2018 and 2020, the cup was suspended due to the competition of FIFA World Cup and the Covid-19 pandemic.
