Stuart Baxter said his new players are giving him sleepless nights.
The Kaizer Chiefs coach, Stuart Baxter, said he believes the 2021/2022 season would be competitive.
The glamour boys would face Mamelodi Sundowns in the quarter-finals of MTN-8 that will kick off on Sunday, 15 August 2021 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Speaking at the press conference, Stuart Baxter said it's a reality that Sundowns have done well since he left Kaizer Chiefs in the 2014/2015 season.
"Sundowns have set a benchmark, and I don't completely agree with people that say they signed all the best players. They've signed this and that. But, you have to do your job. You are still going to make it tick. So, that doesn't entitle anybody to win Championships. To continue to win championships, it's a group performance, and everybody at Sundowns, I'm sure that they're very proud of it," Baxter said.
As Kaizer Chiefs appeared from a transfer ban last season, Stuart Baxter said their new players, this season, are giving him a sleepless night.
"The sleepless nights we are working out ... is how we can get the best out of our players. They're so many reasons that caused Kaizer Chiefs to be away from that benchmark of Mamelodi Sundowns. The rebuilding process is going on, and I hope that will lead us to close the gap and eventually knock them out of their patch. There are also few other teams who want to do the same. So, the pressure is on Mamelodi Sundowns," Baxter said.
The game between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs will kick off at 3 pm on Sunday.
